Delivery · The Model Black

Delivered to your door.

The Model Black lets you shop participating dealerships' inventory across the country, not just the dealerships near you. When the selling dealership offers shipping, you can have the car delivered to your door, with the shipping, the taxes for where you live, and any signing fee shown on the vehicle page before you send your deal.

Shop across the country.

Every car from a participating dealership is priced for your ZIP code, wherever the dealership is. If the car you want is a state or two away, you are not limited to what is on the lots near you: the vehicle page shows you what it costs to have it brought to you, where the dealership ships, or to pick it up.

Shipping is offered by the dealership.

Each participating dealership decides whether it ships and sets its own rates. When it does, choose Delivery on the vehicle page and the shipping line is priced for your address under fees. Inside the dealership's local area it may deliver the car itself; farther out, a transporter brings it, and some dealerships offer enclosed transport as a choice. Where a dealership does not ship to you, the vehicle page shows the car priced for pickup at the dealership. Pickup at the dealership is always available.

How taxes work when a car is delivered.

For the details by state: taxes and fees by state, when you pay taxes on a car, and the trade-in tax credit by state.

How you sign.

A delivered car is signed the way the dealership offers: at the dealership, through a mobile notary at your door, or with remote signing from home. Some dealerships charge for a mobile notary or remote signing; when one does, the vehicle page shows it under fees before you send your deal, never after.

Trading in.

When your new car is shipped or delivered, your trade-in has to get to the dealership too. Some dealerships cover it. Others charge, either the same rate as shipping your new car or a set amount, and when they do, it shows as its own line under fees on the vehicle page before you send your deal.

Quick answers.

Can every car on The Model Black be shipped?

When the selling dealership offers shipping, the vehicle page offers Delivery and prices the shipping for your address under fees. Where the dealership does not ship to you, the vehicle page shows the car priced for pickup at the dealership. Pickup at the dealership is always available.

How much does shipping cost?

It depends on the distance and on the dealership's own rates, so The Model Black prices it for each car and each address. Enter your ZIP on the vehicle page and, where the dealership ships to you, the shipping line appears under fees, before you send your deal.

Do I have to go to the dealership to sign?

Not always. You sign at the dealership unless it offers a mobile notary at your door or remote signing. If the dealership charges for signing, the fee is shown on the vehicle page under fees before you send your deal.

Where do I pay sales tax on a car that is shipped to me?

Sales tax follows where you register the car. The Model Black prices every car for your ZIP with your state's tax, title, and registration built in, and the tax pages explain how each state handles it.

Who ships the car?

The selling dealership, with its own transporter. Once your paperwork is complete and verified, the car ships. You're told the delivery window once the car leaves the dealership. The Model Black does not ship or deliver vehicles.

What happens to my trade-in if the car is shipped?

Your trade-in has to get to the dealership too. Some dealerships cover that; others charge for it, either the same rate as shipping your new car or a set amount. When the dealership charges, it shows as its own line under fees on the vehicle page, before you send your deal.

Can I pick the car up instead?

Yes. Pickup at the dealership is always an option, and the vehicle page reprices for it.
