Lease

To see a lease, pick a vehicle. A lease is priced on one car: what it is expected to be worth at the end (its residual) and the leasing company's money factor change by model and by month.

Pick a vehicleHow leasing works

An estimate on the numbers you type, not an offer of credit or a quote from any dealership. Starting loan rates are Rateous's rates for each credit range and term; they are not an offer from any lender. The documentary fee starts at an example figure, the state's legal cap where it has one or $599 where it does not, not any dealership's fee; each dealership sets its own. Taxes and state fees are estimates for Oklahoma; the dealership's paperwork and your motor vehicle agency have the final numbers. Nothing you type is sent, saved, or used to check your credit.

How the tax works.

Combined effective rate on a new vehicle is 4.5% (3.25% excise + 1.25% sales tax) with no city or county add-on and no trade-in credit.

The actual sales price must be within 20% of the OTC reference value or the reference value is used.

Excise and sales tax are due within 30 days of purchase at titling (Service Oklahoma / licensed operators).

3.25% excise tax on the actual sales price of a new vehicle plus a 1.25% vehicle sales tax (since July 1, 2017) on the same price; no local sales tax applies to vehicles. Used vehicles: $20 excise on the first $1,500 plus 3.25% of the remainder.
Trade-ins: OAC 710:60: excise tax is assessed on the actual sales price 'excluding any discounts or credits given for a trade-in', and the 1.25% sales tax is based on the purchase price before any trade-in credit.

Title, registration and fees.

On a $35,000 new car with a $37,000 sticker, registered in Oklahoma City, no trade-in: the same figures the calculator above uses. The dealership's documentary fee is its own and is not included.

Leasing in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma taxes the vehicle's price when the leased car is titled. The leasing company pays it and it is carried in the lease, so it shows up in your payment rather than as a separate tax on each payment. 3.25% excise tax is paid on the vehicle when the lessor titles it in Oklahoma (passed through in the lease); sales tax on lease payments follows OTC rules for rentals of 90 days or more.
