Lease

To see a lease, pick a vehicle. A lease is priced on one car: what it is expected to be worth at the end (its residual) and the leasing company's money factor change by model and by month.

Pick a vehicleHow leasing works

An estimate on the numbers you type, not an offer of credit or a quote from any dealership. Starting loan rates are Rateous's rates for each credit range and term; they are not an offer from any lender. The documentary fee starts at an example figure, the state's legal cap where it has one or $599 where it does not, not any dealership's fee; each dealership sets its own. Taxes and state fees are estimates for Oregon; the dealership's paperwork and your motor vehicle agency have the final numbers. Nothing you type is sent, saved, or used to check your credit.

How the tax works.

Oregon has no sales tax; the 0.5% privilege tax is imposed on the dealer, who may pass it through as a separate line item.

Title fees depend on MPG: 0-19 mpg $101; 20-39 mpg $106; 40+ mpg $116; electric $192.

Fees shown are the DMV's July 1, 2026 schedule.

0.5% of the retail sales price of a new vehicle (7,500 miles or less) sold by an Oregon dealer; a matching 0.5% vehicle use tax applies to new vehicles bought out of state. No general sales tax.
Trade-ins: The privilege tax base is the retail sales price of the new vehicle; Oregon DOR guidance does not reduce it for a trade-in (ORS 320.400).

Title, registration and fees.

On a $35,000 new car with a $37,000 sticker, registered in Portland, no trade-in: the same figures the calculator above uses. The dealership's documentary fee is its own and is not included.

Two-year registration by combined MPG: 0-19 mpg $126; 20-39 mpg $136; 40+ mpg $216 (not enrolled in OReGO); all-electric $376. New vehicles sold with a manufacturer's certificate receive a four-year registration, so fees (and county fees) double: $272 for a 20-39 mpg car. County fees: Multnomah $112 per two years, Washington and Clackamas $60.

Leasing in Oregon.

Oregon taxes the vehicle's price when the leased car is titled. The leasing company pays it and it is carried in the lease, so it shows up in your payment rather than as a separate tax on each payment. 0.5% privilege tax applies to the retail price of a new vehicle placed in lease service; no tax on lease payments.
